The Journalists' Union (SJ) scheduled a general strike for March 14, against low wages, precariousness and degradation of working conditions in the sector.
«We will stop on March 14th to demand stable employment contracts. We stopped to demand a general increase in salaries, it is not acceptable for a profession with this relevance and demand to be paid with salaries that are barely enough to survive", announced the president of SJ Luís Simões, at a press conference in Lisbon.
In January, journalists approved, unanimously and with acclamation, the holding of a general strike against low wages and the degradation of working conditions.
The vote took place at the 5th Congress of Journalists, in Lisbon, which mandated the SJ to define the date of the strike.
