Portimonense “blacks out” for five minutes at Luz and is thrashed by Benfica

Benfica's first three goals were scored between the 55th and 59th minutes

Portimonense was beaten 4-0 by Benfica, in a game played this Sunday, the 25th, at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, counting for the 23rd round of the I League.

The Algarve had blackout between the 55th minute and the 59th minute, a period in which they scored three goals.

Benfica started stronger and pushed Portimonense into their area in the first few minutes. And it was from very early on that Nakamura, the Algarve goalkeeper, started to put on a show and deny goals to the home team.

After 10 minutes, the Japanese goalkeeper denied Kökcü the goal, with an instinctive save, with his legs, when the Benfica fans were already getting up to celebrate the 1-0.

Nakamura was decisive again in the 32nd minute, when he saved a shot from Otamendi, which escaped the Portimonense defenders.

In the 40th minute, central defender Pedrão denied the goal to Benfica's forwards.

Portimonense did not attack much and the shots they managed in the first half did not cause much danger.

Thus, the game was tied at 0 at half-time.

In the second half, Benfica came out strong again and circled the Algarve's goal practically from the first minute.

And if Portimonense managed to fend off several attacks in the first 9 minutes, Rafa's goal, in the 55th minute, changed everything.

The Benfica forward made it 1-0 in a move involving the Lisbon team.

2-0 came… two minutes later, in the 57th minute. Kökcü made a long pass, Neres isolated himself in front of Nakamura, dodged the goalkeeper and scored.

And while Portimão's players were dealing with these two rude blows, Rafa was once again the protagonist, this time assisting Di Maria, who made it 3-0 in the 59th minute. In other words, in five minutes, the Algarve team conceded three goals.

After 3-0, the Algarve tried to at least score the goal of honor, but without success.

The result took on the form of a rout in the 76th minute, with a new goal from Rafa Silva, assisted by Kökcü.

Although Benfica came close to scoring more times, the 4-0 score remained until the end.

Portimonense, which started the day in 13th place, continues with the same 22 points, on the 23rd round, and drops to 14th, the condition, as it can still be overtaken by Rio Ave, who plays Sporting tonight and has 21 points, with one game less.

Next week, on March 3rd, at 15:30 pm, Portimonense will host Vizela at Municipal de Portimão.
