Paintings and cinema posters inspire exhibitions in Albufeira

In February

The exhibitions “Entre Cores e Salpicos”, by Marie Ladeira, and the exhibition “Sophia Student Poster Exhibition”, by the Portuguese Cinema Academy, will be seen this month, in Albufeira, at the Pintor Samora Barros Art Gallery and at the Galeria Municipal João Bailote, respectively

From Saturday, the 3rd, until the 27th of February, paintings by Marie Ladeira will be on display, whose art «appears between two different styles, the abstract and the figurative».

«On the one hand, there is the artist's relationship with the world, that is, she takes old and/or recent photographs of the city that welcomed her (Albufeira) and paints them on the canvas, adding her personal touches. On the other, the way she interacts with herself, seeking to explore her creative abilities, painting the way she sees her life, full of colors but with many splashes, which she interprets as obstacles overcome », according to the Chamber of Albufeira.

The exhibition “Entre Cores e Salpicos” can be visited at the Pintor Samora Barros Art Gallery from the 3rd to the 27th of February, from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:30 pm.

At Galeria João Bailote, an exhibition will be on view from the 16th to the 25th of February that brings together the cinema posters that are in competition in the Best Poster category in the “Sophia Student 2024” award.

«In recent decades, the cinema poster has become a primary tool for promoting and publicizing a film. At a time when we are increasingly overwhelmed with information, a well-designed cinema poster appears as an essential instrument to capture the viewer's attention, allowing them to understand the essence of the film», states the municipality.

«It is in this context, and in order to encourage future generations of filmmakers to think about the importance of their film posters, that the Portuguese Cinema Academy annually awards the Sophia Student award for Best Poster», he adds.

The winners of this edition will be announced on February 25th, and the Exhibition jury is composed of Miguel Cadilhe (director), Henrique Oliveira (producer/director), Ricardo Preto (Art director), Rui Pedro Tendinha (Film critic ) and Rui Pereira (distributor).

The exhibition can be seen from Monday to Saturday, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:30 pm.
