Guia will have a new roundabout «inspired by sea waves and climate change»

Landscaping is starting

The parish of Guia, in Albufeira, will soon have a new roundabout, inspired «by sea waves and climate change», announced the Chamber.

At a time when the installation of the roundabout itself is in the final phase, the Municipality has already begun “the beautification of the work, through the creation and implementation of a landscaping project”.

«Taking into account the drought problems that are felt in the region, the municipality opted for plants with low water needs, greater resistance and little maintenance», according to Albufeira City Council.

According to José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, this project, «in addition to contributing to the improvement of road fluidity and safety, will give a new life to the area».

«This is not just a roundabout, but an integrated project that takes into account the concern for the well-being and free time of the population, by creating, in addition, another small garden area that will serve as a place for kids to hang out. and adults, particularly parents and children, when leaving classes», he added.

The work, whose investment was around 160 thousand euros, occupies an area of approximately 1.500 square meters, included the creation and/or replacement of some areas of the rainwater network, and is nearing completion.

The project consists of four planted areas and a stay area, located on a small free plot of land between the Rua do Mercado sidewalk and the Rua das Escolas sidewalk.

When preparing the project, “preference was given to plants with low water needs, greater resistance and little maintenance. To give new life to the space, 186 Gauras (scientific name Gaura lindheimeri) 486 African Daisies (scientific name Osteospernum) and 2 Olaias (scientific name Cercis siliquastrum) are being planted».
