The news that these Algarve municipalities were going to receive this test had already been announced in September, but the contract has only now been signed.

«The objective is to have the best Mediterranean Beach Games ever in Portimão and Lagoa. This is a regional challenge with national ambition and international projection», said José Manuel Araújo, secretary general of the COP.

For Luís Encarnação, president of the Municipality of Lagoa, it is «an enormous pride and honor to share this challenge with Portimão».

«We are available to achieve this goal of organizing the best Mediterranean Beach Games ever. It is important, through sport, that we bring people to our territories and show them our ability to welcome them», stressed the mayor.

«This is a great event that deserves to be publicized and made known to all Portuguese people. I sincerely believe that we will have excellent sporting results at these Mediterranean Games. We have excellent hotels, we have excellent beaches and we have an excellent river, and this is also an opportunity to promote Portugal. I felt this was a challenge we needed to take on. They are going to be excellent Games and we run the risk of them becoming the best ever”, said Isilda Gomes.

Present at the signing of the contract were Iakovos Filippousis, general secretary of the ICJM, Ilias
Dalaínas, president of the Coordination Committee for the Mediterranean Games of Praia Portimão and Lagoa 2027, representatives of the Sports Federations that will have sports in competition, and also José Costa, general secretary of the Olympic Athletes Commission.
