“Composting is Giving Life, it’s Valuing!” is the motto of the domestic composting project reinforced by the Municipality of Castro Marim, which intends to continue delivering composters to the population, having extended the initiative to agritourism and rural tourism establishments.
This is the first step in a more comprehensive action plan and operationalization of bio-waste management in the municipality, which expands the range of solutions for the recovery of biodegradable urban waste, in this case domestic bio-waste.
In parallel, community composters will also be installed for those who do not have the means to place a domestic composter and which serve to promote the separation of this type of waste in wider communities.
Composting is a natural process of recycling organic matter, which makes it possible to use kitchen and garden waste and transform it into a fertilizer rich in nutrients, called compost.
Anyone who wants to join the program and secure their home composter simply signs up at the Citizen Support Office or sends the registration form to [email protected] or by post to the City Council of
Castro Marim, Rua Dr. José Alves Moreira, n.º 10, 8950-138 Castro Marim.
Interested parties must comply with the membership conditions, such as having a permanent residence in the municipality of Castro Marim and a house that has a garden or patio, with space to place a domestic composter and later use the compost produced.
This initiative is being developed as part of the application to the “Biobairros – da terra à terra” program, from the Environmental Fund, which provided financing for the implementation of separation and recycling solutions at source.
