AMAL promotes controlled fire action in Monchique

On plots with Eucalyptus stands

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community, AMAL, through its Intermunicipal Forestry Technical Office, and in partnership with the municipality of Monchique and ASPAFLOBAL, promoted this Wednesday, February 7th, a Controlled Fire action in Monchique, on plots with settlements of Eucalyptus.

Technicians with accreditation in Controlled Fire, obtained through the training course promoted by AMAL's Intermunicipal Forestry Technical Office, in 2021/2022 participated in this action.

«This is a technique that requires in-depth knowledge of the use of fire in the ecosystem, which cannot be applied indiscriminately and which is only authorized for those who have this competence recognized», says AMAL, stressing that the use of this method allows «protecting forest stands, enhance the safety of operational personnel in combat and the safeguarding of property, people and animals, as well as mitigating the severe effects of fires».

The action had the support and collaboration of the municipality of Monchique, the Monchique Volunteer Firefighters, the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters and a Team of Forestry Sappers from ASPAFLOBAL – Association of Forestry Producers of the Barlavento Algarvio.
