AlgarOrange hosts citrus contact group meeting in Faro

The “Meeting of the European Citrus Contact Group” was organized by AlgarOrange

A meeting of Citrus Producers' Organizations from Portugal, Spain, France and Italy took place this Thursday, February 22nd, at the premises of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), in Faro. 

With the presence of the Planning, Policies and General Administration Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the meeting will produce recommendations to be addressed to national authorities and European Commission services.

The “Meeting of the European Citrus Contact Group” was organized by AlgarOrange, together with the Planning Office and FNOP, National Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers' Organizations.

Portugal is the sixth country in the European Union with the highest consumption of fruits and vegetables per capita – 28,4 kilos per person -, with 73% of the population eating at least one portion daily.

The meeting was attended by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, José Apolinário, president of CCDR/Algarve, and Pedro Valadas Monteiro, vice-president of CCDR.

The 2030 Agenda and its implications for citrus farming and the issue of water, especially in Mediterranean countries, will be some of the topics discussed throughout these two days of meetings and technical visits to fruit centers and agricultural farms.
