2nd solidarity padel tournament in Portimão supports children with needs and institutions

The initiative is organized by the Matilha Padel Team

A solidarity padel tournament, which will take place next weekend, 17th and 18th February, in Portimão, will support children with therapeutic needs and social institutions.

The initiative is organized by the Matilha Padel Team.

In 2023, the tournament had 117 athletes and managed to raise food and hygiene and cleaning products, worth 3500 euros, as well as clothing, toys and materials for recycling.

The Matilha Padel Team emerged from a group of friends who shared a love of padel, getting together to play games in the form of a tournament.

The group has grown and now has around 400 participants. After this first tournament, the Matilha Padel Team continued to organize other solidarity initiatives, including the initiation and monitoring of children from social institutions in Portimão in the practice of padel.

In 2024, the competition aims to support Constança (Morning Smile With Constança) and Vicente (O Mundo Colorido do Vicente), children in need of expensive medical treatments, by collecting lids, corks and caps, in addition to all the money raised resulting from registrations and monetary support from several companies that decided to join this cause.

Another initiative of the tournament will be the collection of goods and children's clothing to be delivered to Catraia and Casa Nossa Senhora da Conceição.

The 2nd Matilha Padel Team Solidarity Tournament will feature the presence of several local inclusion and volunteer projects, in order to support its dissemination as they “fit within our principles and values”, argues the organization.

They are the FICA project – Inclusive Holidays for the Algarve Community, by the Teia D'Impulsos Association, Refood Portimão and Magia com Impacto.
