Silves: Literacy sessions for democracy brought together 400 students

Within the scope of the Young Municipal Assembly project

The literacy sessions for democracy that the Municipality of Silves organized, between the 9th and 18th of January, within the scope of the Young Municipal Assembly project, brought together nearly four hundred students (from the 8th to the 12th years of schooling) from Escola Secundária de Silves and Escolas Básicas 2,3 do Algoz, Dr. Garcia Domingues, João de Deus and Dr. António da Costa Contreiras.

In a note, the Silves municipality explains that the project consists of several stages. «In a first phase, school coordinators were designated who will accompany the young people, and, after these literacy sessions for democracy, the young municipal deputies who will represent the respective school in the Municipal Youth Assembly will be defined, with a date set for next April 30th».

«Raising awareness and training young people for democratic participation in matters of local politics, listening, debating and presenting their proposals to Bodies of Local Political Power are the main objectives of this project promoted by the Municipality of Silves, in collaboration with the School Groups of the municipality", emphasizes the municipality.
