The objective of the initiative is, according to the municipality, «to encourage a more active and conscious role on the part of citizens in the correct management of waste produced».

Thus, in the identified pilot area, a set of small containers adapted to homes have already been made available to residents, which are used to selectively collect bio-waste, undifferentiated waste (garbage), multi-material waste (plastic/metal, paper/cardboard and glass) and diapers.

Collection will now be carried out door-to-door according to a pre-defined collection schedule.

The project is part of the “Silves a Separar da Serra ao Mar” campaign and complements existing projects of selective collection of bio-waste from cafes, restaurants and similar, and treatment of bio-waste at source, such as domestic and community composting.

On Saturday, between 13pm and 00pm, it is time to collect glass and diapers.
