Rui Cristina justifies leaving AD for Chega citing… Sá Carneiro

Until recently, the PSD deputy says that Chega can bring the “necessary governmental stability” to Portugal

Former PSD deputy Rui Cristina today cited historic social democrats Mota Pinto and Sá Carneiro to justify his candidacy for Chega, to the detriment of the place it had on the AD lists for the Algarve.

The politician from Loulé says he switched to Chega because he believes that this party can bring the “necessary governmental stability” to Portugal.

In an initiative aimed at presenting the general lines of Chega's electoral program, Rui Cristina – who last week left the PSD and became a non-registered deputy – was one of the most applauded speakers of the afternoon at the Sacavém Cultural Center, in the district of Loures. .

The deputy, who will be head of the list for Chega por Évora in the legislative elections on March 10, made a point of saying that “it wasn't overnight” that he made this decision.

“I have known André Ventura since the 2016 congress, I am an independent candidate for Chega because I believe in André, in the political project that Chega has for our country. Since 2019, Chega's policies have won over the Portuguese: first with one deputy, now with 12 and tomorrow many more”, he said, recalling the phrase by former PSD leader Carlos Mota Pinto “today we are many, tomorrow we will be millions”.

Later on, PSD founder Francisco Sá Carneiro would also be mentioned about the difficulty of being elected by Évora, a circle in which Chega has no deputies.

“The risk-free policy is boring,” he said.

The deputy considered that Chega could bring the “necessary governmental stability to Portugal” and said it was “inadmissible” to continue to deal with corruption “in parties within the arc of power”.

“The prime minister’s office was not enough, now also in Madeira,” he said, in reference to the process that had already led to the dismissal of social democrat Miguel Albuquerque.

Rui Cristina said he was aligned with Chega in areas such as education, health and justice and considered that this party “is currently the political force that has a political project to change the country”.
