PSD/Loulé withdraws political confidence from Rui Cristina and demands resignation from councilor position

Rui Cristina was a PSD deputy, elected by the Algarve, since 2019. In the last local elections, he was even the candidate of the social democrats for the Chamber of Loulé, the municipality of which he is a native.

The PSD/Loulé has withdrawn political confidence from Rui Cristina and demands that the social-democratic deputy, who left the party and is being nominated as Chega's candidate for Évora, resign from his position as councilor at the City Council.

In a note sent to the media, the PSD council said it was surprised by the news that Rui Cristina had left the party to be head of Chega por Évora's list.

The PSD/Loulé decided, «unanimously», to withdraw political confidence from Rui Cristina, «demanding that he, with immediate effect, resign from the position of councilor for which he was elected on behalf of the PSD».

This is because, argues the council of social democrats, «since a process of disaffiliation is a unilateral act with immediate effects, any and all links maintained between Rui Cristina and the Social Democratic Party have therefore ceased».

Rui Cristina will be a non-registered deputy until the end of the legislature.

According to SIC Notícias, Rui Cristina will be head of André Ventura's party list for the Évora constituency. The channel cites a party source who says the announcement will be made “in the next few days”.

Furthermore, according to SIC, the name has already been approved by the district of Évora do Chega.

Rui Cristina was announced as the fifth candidate on the PSD list for the Algarve, which is headed by Miguel Pinto Luz, something that caused discomfort.

Rui Cristina was a PSD deputy, elected by the Algarve, since 2019. In the last local elections, he was even the candidate of the Social Democrats for the Chamber of Loulé, the municipality of which he is from.

Furthermore, he was also leader of the local PSD.
