“Parachutist” Miguel Pinto Luz (PSD) says that Algarve “needs love”

List of candidates for deputy will be approved today by the PSD National Council

Born in Lisbon, he is vice-president of the Cascais Chamber and is the head of the list of the Democratic Alliance (AD)… for the Algarve in the Legislatures of March 10. Miguel Pinto Luz, former candidate for the leadership of the social democrats, was the choice by Luís Montenegro, but guarantees that he has connections to the region, both family and professional.

The choice will be made official on the night of this Monday, January 15th, by the PSD National Council, but it has already been made by Miguel Pinto Luz himself in an interview with CNN.

Asked about what connections he has to the Algarve, Miguel Pinto Luz explained himself by the fact that his “paternal grandfather” was from the Algarve and his father lived in the region.

«On the other hand, it is known that I have been working on issues linked to tourism and infrastructure for a long time, hot topics in the region's development», he added.

The former Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications spoke of the Algarve as a region “so often forgotten and relegated to the background”.

«Lisbon's rulers almost have a tendency to think that the Algarve governs itself, that nothing more needs to be done because we have tourism, but so many things are needed. Not long ago, we learned about the water cuts,” he added.

Miguel Pinto Luz considered that the Algarve «must have more affection» and «more attention from Lisbon».

«More interventionist public policies are needed, more investment, more capacity to make the Algarve even more competitive to be more resilient and help the country as a whole», he also said.

The vice-president of the PSD also assumed that the decision to be head of the list for the Algarve was taken by Luís Montenegro, president of the party.

«I, as always in politics and in my public life, put myself at the service of my country and my party, never being excessively concerned with personal agendas or electoral tactics. It's going to be a difficult fight, I'm aware of that, but it's the difficult fights that give us more strength to continue», he argued.

O Sul Informação tried to contact Miguel Pinto Luz and Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD/Algarve, but this was not possible until the publication of this article.
