The journalists gathered at the Congress of Journalists unanimously approved today, January 21st, a general strike and mandated the Journalists' Union to define the date of the strike.

The motion proposing a general strike was approved this afternoon, in the final moments of the Journalism Congress, with congressmen applauding and applauding the decision to go on a general strike.

The problems of the Global Media group (workers continue to receive unpaid wages and there is a threat of collective dismissal of up to 200 people) dominated much of the attention of the congress, at a time of crisis in journalism in which poor working conditions are widespread and there is a crisis in the model financing of journalistic organizations.

The 5th Congress of Journalists took place from Thursday, January 18th, until today, the 21st, in Lisbon (at Cinema São Jorge) with almost 800 delegates.

The last general strike by journalists was in 1982, said the president of the Congress of Journalists, Pedro Coelho.
