Pioneering salt art exhibition kicks off in Castro Marim

Pedro Seromenho's exhibition opens on January 26th

Pedro Seromenho's pioneering exhibition that turns salt into art begins the tour in Castro Marim, on January 26th, at 17pm, at Casa do Sal.

Inspired by the salt pans of the Castro Marim Sapal Natural Reserve and with salt as the material of choice and protagonist, Pedro Seromenho began this project that will continue on a tour through other territories.

The “Pôr-do-Sal” exhibition includes ten drawings of traditional professions and also a 12-meter artistic installation, in addition to a week-long residency in which the artist Pedro Seromenho will make drawings with salt.

The exhibition will portray shepherds, fishermen, water collectors, salt workers or basket makers, while children from the municipality's schools will have the opportunity to participate in illustration workshops and story times.

The opening of the exhibition will be the culmination of many hours of work, with the artist, illustrator, writer and creator finishing the work live and in full view of everyone present, who will be able to observe the technique of this ephemeral art up close.

According to the municipality, the salt used in this exhibition was removed from the Castro Marim salt flats in September last year, and the process can be viewed through a time lapse video.

Pedro Seromenho was born in Zimbabwe, lives in Braga and has a degree in Economics. In 2006 he made his debut in children's literature, having already published 18 books, and is currently considered a great storyteller.
