CTT increases prices by an average of 9,49% from February 1st

According to CTT, this increase is «significantly lower than the maximum allowed by the regulatory framework»

CTT announced this Thursday, January 4th, that they will increase, from February 1st, by 9,49%, on average, the universal service price basket, detailing that sending a letter weighing up to 20 grams it will cost four cents more.

«CTT – Correios de Portugal informs that, from February 1st, it will update its tariff, in accordance with the price formation rules agreed with Anacom [National Communications Authority] and the General Directorate of Consumer in the Universal Service Price Agreement, which provide for the possibility of mitigating the effects of rising inflation and the sharp drop in postal traffic", reads a note released today.

«Aware of the impacts on customers of generalized price growth in all sectors of activity, CTT decided to absorb a substantial part of the increase that would result from the application of the formula provided for in the aforementioned Agreement, applying to the universal service price basket an average increase of 9,49%, which corresponds to an average global value of 8,91%, if we include special prices in quantity», assured the group.

According to CTT, this increase is «significantly lower than the maximum allowed by the regulatory framework», having received «the favorable opinion of Anacom» and was «approved by the Government».

The company highlighted that, «in the services most used in national correspondence, which represent more than 50% of traffic, the increases vary between 4 cents and 40 cents», and, «by way of example, the cost of sending a letter weighing up to 20 g by regular mail increases 4 cents to 65 cents (an increase of 6,56%)”.
