VRSA Chamber delivered houses to 29 families in the municipality

On Tuesday

This Tuesday, Vila Real de Santo António City Council delivered houses to 29 families in the municipality, within the scope of the 1st Right Program and the VRSA Local Housing Strategy. The houses are located in the town of Monte Fino, parish of Monte Gordo.

In this way, highlights the VRSA Chamber, the «living conditions of fifty people will be improved, who will now have access to decent housing».

Over the last year, VRSA's Local Housing Strategy «has already made it possible to allocate homes to a hundred families in the municipality who were in a vulnerable situation and ensured the resolution of specific and urgent situations of housing shortage. The investment already made is around 12 million euros».

For Álvaro Araújo, mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, «the acquisition of these properties and their respective rental represents a historic and turning point and breaks a cycle of two decades of disinvestment and lack of requalification of the municipality's housing stock. ».

«We are implementing an ambitious Local Housing Strategy, worth more than 111 million euros, which will make it possible to put an end to precarious housing situations. Our goal is to provide a decent home for around 700 families in the municipality», continues the mayor.

The Vila Real de Santo António Local Housing Strategy was approved by municipal bodies on July 29, 2022, and provides a set of solutions to address identified needs.

All these measures will allow the operationalization of the 1st Right – Support Program for Access to Housing, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), guaranteeing VRSA residents access to housing as a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.
