Algarvio Rui Cristina (ex-PSD) will even be head of Chega's list for Évora

Rui Cristina was announced as the fifth candidate on the PSD list for the Algarve

Algarve deputy Rui Cristina, who announced on Monday, January 22, its dissolution from the PSD and transition to independent status in parliament, will even be the head of Chega por Évora's list, an official source from that party told Lusa.

On Monday, deputy Rui Cristina announced his departure from the PSD, claiming that Luís Montenegro's leadership is only concerned with «internal adjustments of accounts».

Following this announcement, several media outlets reported that he would be Chega's candidate, but in statements to Lusa Rui Cristina, a PSD activist for more than 20 years, simply responded that «the future requires consideration and reflection».

Today, the party led by André Ventura also confirmed that Durão Barroso's former secretary of state Henrique de Freitas will be the first name on the list of candidates for deputies for Portalegre.

According to information transmitted to Lusa by Chega's official source, the party maintains the list heads for Aveiro, deputy Jorge Galveias, for Leiria, deputy Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, for Bragança, José Pires, for Castelo Branco, João Ribeiro, by Vila Real, Manuela Tender, and by Europe, José Dias Fernandes.

In the Beja circle there is a change and the head of the list will be Diva Ribeiro.

André Ventura had also already indicated the top list for Madeira (Francisco Gomes, ex-PSD), for the Azores (Miguel Arruda), for Guarda (Nuno Simões de Melo, former director of IL), for the Fora da Europa circle, António Maló de Abreu (ex-PSD), for Viana do Castelo, Eduardo Teixeira (ex-PSD), for Coimbra, António Pinto Pereira (ex-PSD) and for Viseu, João Tilly (first elected to the National Council).

It had also already been announced that party leader André Ventura will be the head of the list for Lisbon, and deputies Rita Matias for Setúbal, Pedro Frazão for Santarém, Rui Afonso for Porto, Filipe Melo for Braga and the parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto, per Faro.

Rui Cristina was announced as the fifth candidate on the PSD list for the district of Faro to the early legislative elections on March 10, headed by social democratic vice-president Miguel Pinto Luz, after having been number two in the 2022 elections.

The deputy was the second PSD parliamentarian to leave the party in recent weeks, after António Maló de Abreu, who was also confirmed as Chega's candidate by the circle outside Europe, after previously refusing this possibility.
