Community theater marks the opening of the Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center

Along the riverfront to the Interpretive Center, there will be a show

A community theater show marks the opening of the Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center, scheduled for 15pm on Saturday, December 16th. This will be the last official moment of the program relating to the 99th anniversary of Portimão's elevation to the category of city.

The new cultural equipment results from the rehabilitation works of the emblematic building sheltering the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos de Alvor and is a project of the Municipality of Portimão, through its Museum, with the collaboration of the Parish Council of Alvor, towards the creation of a museum nucleus dedicated to the history of the “Alvor” lifeboat, also recovered, both in close relationship with the village’s fishing community, their experiences and knowledge.

The inauguration of the Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center will be marked with a program of activities, the beginning of which will be marked by a special moment.

Thus, from the town's fishing warehouses, and along the riverside, to the Interpretive Center, you can watch the community theater show “To the taste of luck and destiny”, which will take a little of the history of the city to the streets. “Alvor” lifeguard and its strong relationship with the fishermen of this typical village.

The show will feature the participation of the community itself, under the artistic direction of Raquel Belchior, produced by Ordem do O – Associação Cultural and an artistic team composed of Juliana Pinho, Luís Valdir, Pedro Ramos, Mara Morgado and Ana Lúcia Palminha.

The construction of this spectacle on the ground had the support of the Association of Professional Fishermen of Alvor, the Clube Naval D. João II, ACRA Alvorense, 1.º de Outubro, the maritime-tourist company Trigana, the Captaincy of the Port of Portimão and of the fishermen who welcomed the group into their workspace.

At 16:30 pm, the official inauguration ceremony of the Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center follows and, shortly afterwards, drinks at the old fish market. At 19pm, the concert with artist João Leote will begin, which will close the inauguration program of the new cultural space.

 

 


Rehabilitate the collective memory of Alvor
The Alvor Lifeguard Interpretive Center had the support of CRESC Algarve 2020 – Algarve Regional Operational Program, through PADRE – Endogenous Resources Development Action Plan, with an approved investment of 422.830,31 euros, with the fee of 90 percent ERDF contribution, equivalent to 380.547,28 euros.
One of the main points of interest of the interpretive center, which will be a strong tourist attraction also in the low season, is the old “Alvor” lifeboat, of great importance to local fishermen since it came into operation in 1933. , having recently benefited from profound recovery, on the initiative of the Municipality of Portimão.
