Fisherman dies after falling from a cliff in Sagres

A 40-year-old recreational fisherman died after falling from a cliff east of Beliche beach, in Sagres, where he was fishing, today, December 31st, at around 15:30 pm.

The alert for the occurrence was received at 15:37 pm, through the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, with members of the local Command of the Lagos Maritime Police and crew from the Sagres Lifeguard Station being sent to the scene, as well as members of the Vila do Bispo Volunteer Firefighters and the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER).

«Upon arrival at the scene, the crew from the Sagres Lifeguard Station removed the victim's body and transported it to the port of Baleeira, where he was declared dead by the VMER doctor. The victim was later transported by the Vila do Bispo Volunteer Firefighters to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Portimão», according to the National Maritime Authority.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim's relatives.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Lagos took care of the incident.
