The entry into force of mandatory periodic inspections of motorcycles over 125 cm3 was previously scheduled for January 2024

The President of the Republic yesterday promulgated the Government diploma that postpones for one year, to 2025, the mandatory periodic inspections for motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles with engine capacity greater than 125 cubic centimeters (cm3).

In a note published on the Presidency's website, it is stated that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa promulgated “the diploma that, under the legislative authorization granted to the Government by Law No. 62/2023, of November 9, changes the legal regimes of technical inspection activity of motor vehicles and their trailers and the operation of inspection centers”.

On December 07, the Council of Ministers approved the decree-law that postpones for one year, to 2025, the mandatory periodic inspections for motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles with engine capacity greater than 125 cubic centimeters (cm3).

This diploma, approved at the last meeting of the Government's Council of Ministers, before it came into administration, “postpones for one year, to 2025, the mandatory periodic inspection” of those vehicles, an official source from the Secretary of State's office explained to Lusa at the time. Deputy and Infrastructure, Frederico Francisco.

The entry into force of mandatory periodic inspections of motorcycles over 125 cm3 was previously scheduled for January 2024, having generated several protests from motorcyclists, after the publication of decree-law 29/2023, in May.

The decree-law provided that inspections of motorcycles would have to be carried out “five years after the date of first registration and then every two years”.
