Number of passengers at national airports rises 20,6% until October

The number of passengers at national airports increased 20,6% between January and October, compared to the same period last year, to 58,5 million, of which 6,4 million in October (+11,9%), released today the INE.

According to quick air transport statistics, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), «between January and October 2023, the number of passengers increased by 20,6% compared to the same period in 2022, while the movement of cargo and mail registered a decrease (-1,7%)”.

Compared to the same period in 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic, there were increases of 12,2% and 6,2%, respectively.

Considering the volume of passengers disembarked and boarded on international flights, in that period, the United Kingdom was the main country of origin and destination for flights, with growth of 17,5% in the number of passengers disembarked and 17,6% in the number of passengers embarked, compared to the same period in 2022.

France and Spain occupied the second and third position, respectively, both as countries of origin and as destination countries for flights.

In an analysis of the month of October, INE observed that 6,4 million passengers and 20.400 tons of cargo and mail were handled at national airports, corresponding to increases of 11,9% and 6,8%, respectively, compared to the same month of last year.

Compared to October 2019, there were increases of 16,4% and 3,1%, in the same order.

«Since the beginning of 2023, there have been historic maximums in the monthly values ​​of passengers at national airports», pointed out INE, pointing out that, «in October 2023, there was an average daily disembarkation of 101.200 passengers, a value higher than registered in October 2022 (90.700; +11,6%) and 17,8% above that seen in October 2019 (85.900)».
