MEO, NOS and Vodafone raise prices next year

About a month ago, the National Communications Authority (Anacom) had asked operators to “contain” price increases

The three main telecommunications operators MEO (Altice Portugal), NOS and Vodafone Portugal will increase prices next year, after a month ago the regulator Anacom asked for “restraint” on the increase.

According to information available on the Meo website, owned by Altice Portugal, the latter “will update its prices in accordance with the contractual conditions in force”.

Therefore, with regard to monthly fees for mobile postpaid services, the update comes into force on January 1st, with the contractually foreseen minimum value of 50 cents including VAT.

On February 1st, by application of the Consumer Price Index (IPC) for the year 2022, which is published by INE from January 19th, the monthly fees for fixed television and convergent services will be updated.

«The contractually foreseen minimum value of 50 cents (with VAT) will be applied to additional mobile cards», reads on Meo's website.

In turn, NOS explains, on its website, that «the inflationary context has been increasing costs in the communications sector» and that, in this context, «it will update the price of services» according to the IPC.

«This update applies to monthly service fees as well as extra ceiling fees» and «the new prices will come into effect on February 1st and each customer will be able to consult their specific update on the NOS website, from the 23rd. January", he adds.

Vodafone Portugal also states, on its website, that it will update the price of its services.

«In accordance with the terms and conditions set out in the contract, Vodafone Portugal will update the price of telecommunications services provided to its customers, from February 1st», with the increase calculated using the IPC.

The three operators plan to provide solutions for the most vulnerable customers.
