UAlg researcher sees research project in the area of ​​obesity approved

The awards ceremony took place on December 13th, at the Ordem dos Médicos, in Lisbon

Ana Luísa Coelho, researcher at the Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-RI) and professor at the School of Health of the University of Algarve, has just had the project “Identification of biomarkers and Predictive factors for Personalized metabolic surgery for the Treatment of Obesity -IMPPACTO)”, with funding of around 26 thousand euros.

IMPPACTO, submitted in partnership between the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) and the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC), focuses on obesity and its surgical treatment, as well as sarcopenia, a condition characterized by a loss of muscle mass and strength and can coexist with obesity.

This three-year project aims to identify new biomarkers related to the specific outcomes of the surgical procedure, which will be established as indicators of success. The ultimate goal is to move towards more personalized obesity treatment, adapted to each individual.

The researcher from the University of Algarve appears as co-investigator responsible for this project now awarded by AICIB, with the support of the solidarity account “Todos Por Quem Cuida” (TPQC), highlighting relevant research work in the area of ​​aging.
