Helicopter rescues injured crew member on fishing boat south of Portimão

Boat sailed around 10 nautical miles, the equivalent of around 20 kilometers, south of Portimão

 

A 53-year-old fisherman, who was on board the fishing vessel «Toni Pires» and suffered an accident, was rescued by the EH-101 Merlin helicopter, from Squadron 751 – “Pumas”, of the Portuguese Air Force, during this Saturday afternoon , south of Portimão.

The operation was coordinated by the Navy, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Center (MRCC Lisbon).

The vessel, which was sailing around 10 nautical miles, the equivalent of around 20 kilometers, south of Portimão, made a request for assistance, which arrived at MRCC Lisboa via the 112 platform, at 13:35 pm, reporting that One of the crew had a broken hip.

CODUMAR was immediately informed and assessed the victim's condition, considering the situation as an urgent medical rescue.

The rescue was carried out by helicopter, which took off from Air Base No. 6, in Montijo, and transported the injured man to the hospital in Faro, where he landed, at 15:15 pm.

The Navy, through its Maritime Search and Rescue Centers, guarantees a continuous response throughout the national territory to incidents that may occur.
