Government resignation formalized on December 7th and dissolution of the AR on January 15th

The President of the Republic said today

The President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said today that he will formalize the resignation of the Government next Thursday, December 7th, and appointed the dissolution of parliament for January 15th.

"In principle, the last Council of Ministers will be on the 7th and, therefore, the 7th night will be the resignation", a month after the prime minister submitted his resignation, the head of state told journalists on the sidelines of a visit to the Food Bank against Hunger, in Lisbon.

«I extended a little what could end after this weekend, as the final global vote on the State Budget has ended», stated the President of the Republic.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that «there were some important votes for the PRR» that «had to be completed» and therefore, «thinking about the PRR», he left the formalization of the resignation until next week.

"This is also why in the Assembly the dissolution, which is on the 15th, [January] was also designed to allow the final drafting of the Budget to be completed, which is close to the end of the year", he added, noting that he also wanted to give time so that parliament can “reconsider” the statutes of professional orders, if it decides to veto.

Prime Minister António Costa submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic on November 7, because of a judicial investigation into the installation of a data center in Sines and lithium and hydrogen businesses that led the Public Ministry to open an investigation autonomous in the Supreme Court of Justice in which he is targeted.
