The Lagos Cultural Center will receive programming support of 800 thousand euros from the General Directorate of Arts (DGArtes), to be spread over a period of four years, announced the Lacobrigense Chamber.

The Lagos cultural space was one of 18 new spaces from the Portuguese Theaters and Cinemas Network (RTCP) to receive programming support, after being ranked 4th nationally, in the second edition of a competition launched by DGArtes.

The Lagos Cultural Center now joins the 38 theaters and cinemas already supported in the first edition of the competition, in 2022.

This support from the Directorate-General for the Arts is intended for spaces outside the municipalities of Lisbon and Porto, which had not been financed in the 2022-2025 cycle, with a view to greater cultural decentralization and national cohesion, as well as regular and continuous management of your offer.

«Being part of a NUTS II region (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistical Purposes), Lagos and Lagoa were the Algarve municipalities to join this group, after a rigorous analysis and subsequent decision by DGArtes», revealed the Câmara de Lagos.

Entitled “Fusão de Horizontes”, the Cultural Center's programming plan for 2024-2027, included in this application, «is based on artistic quality and a multidisciplinary vision, highlighting Dance, Visual Arts, Circus Arts, Music and Theatre, with special focus on hosting activities, namely local cultural associations, as well as co-productions and artistic residencies».

«Another of its specificities involves the projects of educational and mediation programs with a focus on local identity, the fusion between tradition and contemporary times and active involvement between different audiences and artists, with inclusion and accessibility within the community also being a strategy for this equipment», revealed the municipality.

DGArtes' financial support to the Lagos Cultural Center amounts to around 200 thousand euros in each of the four years (2024-2027), which will be applied “to reinforcing the quality of its programming, such as the Pedra Dura projects – Algarve Dance Festival, whose second edition took place last November, or the “Cinema no Estendal”, which will take place on the street and which will reinforce the presence of this art in Lagos in an “out of doors” way».
