União Sambrasense launches Boccia in São Brás de Alportel

New team is training in the space provided by the Parish Council

José Eduardo, Sandra, Madalena, Fábio, João Pedro and Raul are a group of friends who, with their parents, got together informally to practice Boccia in São Brás de Alportel.

They contacted União Sambrasense so that the sport, «universal in nature, fully adaptable to any athlete and which has already been elected as a Paralympic sport», would become part of the club's offer.

After some meetings with the athletes and their parents, União Sambrasense decided to move forward with the club's affiliation with the Cerebral Palsy National Sports Association (PCAND) on October 30th.

The first official training took place on November 6th, at the São Brás de Alportel Parish Council facilities.

Bruno Sousa Costa, president of União Sambrasense, said that «the club has a moral obligation and social duty to support these integrative modalities, demonstrating its scope as a great club in this land. This was the missing social component».

Therefore, he added, «we are very proud, as a collective, to have this sports center», since «this is one of the ways to promote inclusion, opening doors for everyone to want to practice this sport, encouraging healthy habits, socialization and coexistence. We feel more satisfied with the formalization of this new sport, which, combined with Basketball, began to take new steps».

The new team is training in the space provided by the Parish Council, and is always available to receive new athletes or visitors. Anyone who wants can join on the following training days: Monday (19pm-00pm), Tuesdays and Fridays, at 21:00pm, at the Parish Council.
