Tavira will have two Village Condominiums

Application approved for the “Village Condominium – Integrated Support Program for Villages Located in Forest Territories”

The municipality of Tavira will have two “Village Condominiums”, one in the parish of Cachopo, in the mountains of Almarginho and Fonte do Corcho, with a total intervention area of 6,403 hectares, and the other, in the parish of Tavira, in Vale Covo and Monte das Casas, with a total intervention area of 12,45 hectares.

This is possible because the Municipality of Tavira, through the Municipal Civil Protection Service, had its application approved for the “Village Condominium – Integrated Support Program for Villages Located in Forest Territories'', within the scope of the investment “RE-C08 -i01: Landscape Transformation of Vulnerable Forest Territories” (Component C08 – Forest) of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

The “Village Condominiums” Program, managed by the Environmental Fund, aims to provide support and resilience to villages located in vulnerable forest territories, aiming at a set of actions aimed at ensuring change in use, land occupation and management of fuels around population clusters, thus ensuring a reduction in the volume of vegetation available for burning, preventing rural/forest fires.

The main actions to be developed include preparatory meetings to involve the population with awareness raising among village residents, as well as cleaning and preparing land for planting orchards and permanent rainfed sowing, improvement of irrigation infrastructures, installation of sprinklers. fire and creation of a loader for plant material for chip production.

The Parish Councils of Cachopo and Tavira collaborate with the Municipality as partners in this program.
