Tavira brings together clubs to take stock of sporting activity in the municipality

The meeting also served to present to clubs and associations in the sector the proposal to amend the Municipal Regulations for Support for Sports Activity

Taking stock of sporting activity in the municipality and presenting to clubs and associations in the sector the proposal to change the Municipal Regulation for Support to Sports Activity (RMAAD) was the objective of a meeting that took place yesterday, November 2nd, at Salão Nobre of the Town Hall of Tavira.

The session, promoted by Tavira City Council, was attended by representatives of the municipality's sports groups, which have already been supported, as a whole, with support of 769 thousand euros, since the beginning of the year.

Currently, the municipality of Tavira has 50 clubs that carry out regular sporting activities in sports such as: handball, adapted handball, athletics, ballet, basketball, boxing, mountain biking, cycling, cycle tourism, contemporary dance, self-defense, football, beach football, footvolley , futsal, acrobatic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, hip hop, ju-jitsu, karate, kickboxing, swimming, netball, figure skating, sport fishing, pétanque, tennis, shooting, archery, trampolines, trial and sailing.

«Aware of the importance of practicing sports for physical and mental health, the municipality regularly supports clubs in the exercise of their activity, particularly in terms of providing sports facilities and municipal transport, as well as in relation to financial support, logistics, goods and materials for events, financial support for the promotion of sports, for the maintenance of infrastructure and for the participation of athletes in national and international competitions», states the City Council.

As for the proposed amendment to the Municipal Sports Activity Support Regulation (RMAAD), which the Chamber presented «with the aim of involving clubs in this process», it has four main objectives.

The first is to “comply with the new procedural requirements, in order to clarify the process of attributing financial, material and logistical contributions and guarantee transparent, fair, impartial and balanced support for sporting activities”.

With the revised regulation, the Tavira municipality also wants to «direct support to the current needs of sports associations in Tavira», taking into account that the current regulation dates from 2010, as well as «simplify and clarify the application process by sports clubs and the respective evaluation and allocation of support by the municipality».

“Bringing the rules and criteria used to evaluate applications closer to current requirements” is the fourth major objective of the review.

The proposed amendment to the RMAAD, when finalized, will be submitted for approval to the Municipal Chamber and Assembly.
