Action plan against human trafficking in public consultation next week

The minister agreed that “the plans are very important”, but argued that action on the ground is even more important

The sixth action plan for the Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking will be up for public consultation next week, announced the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, who admitted the three-year delay.

Ana Catarina Mendes is being heard in a joint hearing of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees and the Committee on Culture, Communication, Youth and Sports, for discussion in the specialty of the State Budget for 2024 (OE2024) and it was in this context that revealed that it intends to soon put the next action plan against human trafficking into public consultation.

“From next week onwards, I hope that the public consultation will take place and that we can quickly approve this new plan”, stated the minister, who, in response to a question from social democratic deputy Emília Cerqueira, admitted that the action plan is with a delay of three years.

The minister agreed that “the plans are very important”, but argued that action on the ground is even more important.

From this point of view, he said, the numbers show a reduction in the phenomenon thanks to a “concerted action by the bodies responsible for this dimension”, namely the Judiciary Police, but also the judicial system, starting with the fight against trafficking networks. of human beings, but also of illegal immigration.
