Minister went to Alvor to see works to improve the energy efficiency of the Sports Complex

Works are already underway

Ana Abrunhosa, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, was on Saturday, the 25th, in Portimão, to see the intervention to improve energy efficiency at the Alvor Sports Complex, a project supported by European funds.

These works aimed to adapt the Alvor Sports Complex to current demands and concerns, in terms of energy requirements, which are very different from those that existed in 2001, the year in which the infrastructure was inaugurated.

With the work underway, which will involve an investment of around 750 thousand euros, of which 446 thousand will be subsidized by the European Union, «the installations are being adapted in order to change their consumption patterns, going from energy certificate B- to category A+», according to Portimão City Council.

The contract, which began on October 17th and is expected to last 120 days, «includes the replacement of glazed windows with high performance windows and the replacement of boilers with heat pump systems, some for the pool and others for high performance. temperature to support air and hot water heating».

«The hydraulic system of the thermal plant will also be remodeled to maximize the use of the solar system and the dehumidification of the air in the pool area, replacement of showers and mixers in the changing rooms, in addition to the installation of a photovoltaic system for self-consumption and a management system centralized technique", adds the municipality.

After the works are completed, «there will be a reduction of 43kWh in electricity consumption and a hundred percent reduction in natural gas consumption, resulting in annual savings of 845 thousand euros.

While the work continues, the 1080 weekly users of this municipal facility must access the Alvor Sports Complex through the east gate, next to the workout fitness park.
