Minister of Territorial Cohesion visited works on the Cycle Path that connects Castro Marim to Praia Verde

Câmara de Castro Marim highlights that «it would have been desirable for the Praia Verde roundabout to be built simultaneously by Infrastructures of Portugal»

The implementation of the EM 125-6 Cycle Path, connecting Castro Marim to Praia Verde, was the reason for the visit that Ana Abrunhosa, Minister of Territorial Cohesion, made on Wednesday, the 22nd, to the municipality of Castro Marim, accompanied by the executive of Town hall.

This is a work financed by PO CRESC Algarve 2020, co-financed 90% by FEDER, within the scope of PAMUS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Action Plan).

With some implementation problems, namely on the part of the contractor in guaranteeing some production factors, a commitment has now been made to execute as much as possible by December 31st, to guarantee the greatest possible eligibility for financing.

This «was precisely the purpose of Minister Ana Abrunhosa's agenda», on a tour of several days through the Algarve region: to guarantee that CRESC Algarve will be implemented in its entirety.

With a length of around five kilometers, this cycle path will connect the town of Castro Marim to Praia Verde, an investment of around 900 thousand euros.

The Chamber of Castro Marim highlights, in a press release, that «it would have been desirable for the Praia Verde roundabout to be built simultaneously by Infrastructures of Portugal, given that the finishing of the cycle path is precisely designed in accordance with the roundabout project, but, despite all the appeals, the plan never came to fruition».

This is the 2nd section of an integrated environmental sustainability project that the Municipality of Castro Marim promotes as the Green Triangle: Vila Real de Santo António – Castro Marim – Praia Verde.

The cycle path that will close the circuit will be a section of the Ecovia do Litoral and EuroVelo, promoted by CCDR – Algarve and AMAL.

Recently completed was the Solar Lighting of the Lezíria Cycle Path, which is the 1st section of the Green Triangle, also included in the PO CRESC Algarve 2020, within the scope of the PADRE action plan, approved for Baixo Guadiana in the READY operation, supported by Portugal and the Union European Union, co-financed 70% by the ERDF.

«The creation of new cycling infrastructure is part of the environmental and sustainability policies of the Municipality of Castro Marim, which has also been working towards decarbonization and energy efficiency», adds the municipality.
