The group Lusiads Health provided the Hospital Lusiads Albufeira of two new medical interventions in the area of cardiology – Auricular Fibrillation Ablation and Cardiodefibrillator Implantation – thus improving care linked to the heart in the Algarve region.
«This reinforcement of cardiovascular health services in the South region reflects the Group's ongoing commitment to contributing to the improvement of care provided to the local community, thus guaranteeing a multidisciplinary, quality and accessible offer», highlights the group.
Atrial fibrillation, one of the services that the Hospital now provides, «is a type of arrhythmia strongly associated with strokes and heart failure». Among its treatment options is ablation, an invasive procedure that makes it possible to more effectively treat patients with atrial fibrillation who demonstrate resistance to conventional therapy.
«Thanks to this new service provided from now on at the hospital, the Algarve population now has access to one of the most advanced treatments in the area of Cardiology, without the need to travel to Lisbon to undergo it», says the Hospital.
The other new service is the introduction of Cardiodefibrillator Implantation, an intervention whose main objective is “the prevention of sudden death in patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction, thanks to the implantation of an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device that allows monitoring and regulating the heart rate, enabling a very significant advance in the treatment of critical cardiac situations».
The two new interventions provided by the Hospital Lusiads Albufeira has the support of a team of highly qualified health professionals, led by cardiologists João de Sousa and Afonso Nunes Ferreira, and which includes doctors, technicians and nurses from Lisbon and the Algarve, who ensure the excellence and safety of the aforementioned procedures. .
The group Lusiads Saúde intends, through this investment in the Cardiology area of the Albufeira unit, to reinforce its commitment to strengthening the service capacity in the Algarve region, with plans for the development and training of local doctors in the future, in collaboration with medical experts in arithmology of hospital intervention Lusiads in Lisbon and Amadora.
