Loulé: Artistic laboratory “Feminismo(s)” launches open call

The initiative is part of the process of creating the second show in the Pessimism Theory Trilogy

Women (cis, trans), non-binary people or those in question “who identify with a feminist perspective” are being challenged to join the open call for the artistic laboratory “Feminism(s) – Instrument for a new Democracy”, which will take place between November 30th and December 3rd, at Palácio Gama Lobo, in Loulé.

This open call «is integrated into the range of activities of the research process for the creation of the second show in the Pessimism Theory Trilogy, a MEMO show to premiere in 2024, whose lens will focus on gender oppression as one of the dangers that threaten our Democracy », according to Mescla Criativa, which promotes the initiative in partnership with Cineteatro Louletano.

The idea of this creative laboratory is “to promote active reflection on the use of intersectional feminism as an instrument for change in the daily lives of all women. It aims to encourage women to explore different languages (performance, sound, cinema and words) to express and share their perspectives».

The activity will seek to demonstrate «how feminism is not about making men share domestic tasks or how women can, like men, access power to enjoy the Self».

«The topics of discussion are continuous: diversity, intersectionality, power relations, gender oppression, contraception, access to healthcare, pay inequality, parental leave, immigration, discrimination, housing, violence and harassment, climate emergency, food security, education, among others", describe the event promoters.

Those interested in participating must submit “a cover letter/biographical note of up to 250 words and an original text (any literary genre) that is a “scream”, one that goes through windows and walls about the level of oppression and silencing they feel subject in their day-to-day life”.

The open call accepts texts in any language, «but it is recommended that, if possible, they are submitted in Portuguese».

Submissions will be accepted until November 20th. The selection will be announced by November 25th.

During the laboratory, participants “will have the opportunity to present and discuss their work”.
