IPDJ of Faro hosts meeting to call for peace in the Gaza Strip

Debate is organized by ARCA

The IPDJ of Faro will host, on November 4th, between 16pm and 00pm, a meeting and debate to call for peace in the Gaza Strip, organized by the Algarve Recreational and Cultural Association (ARCA).

The debate will be framed and moderated by journalist Conceição Branco.

The program includes the restoration of the exhibition “An Unrecognized People”, which documents the participation of the ARCA association in an international seminar on ethnic minorities and human rights in Israel, which circulated in several schools and community spaces throughout the country.

«The replacement is intended to be an active contribution to an informed debate, and to the urgent mobilization of everyone to demand peace, so that barbarism and violence are not perpetuated under our collective silence», explains ARCA.

The meeting is attended by several artists such as Ana Tereza (Pop), Billy Fresh (Hip Hop), Genoveva Faísca (Jazz), Chalice Bwoy + AlmAlgarvia + Didier Grelha (Reggae Sound System), Fernando Guerreiro (Stories), Cláudia Tomé Silva (Poetry), Filipe Santos (Portuguese Guitar), Martim Santos/Lágrima (Poetry) and Percutunes (Portuguese Percussion).

The exhibition “Um Povo Não Reconhecido” is 21 years old and was inaugurated in November 2002. According to ARCA, at the time, this exhibition “was not intended to be more than a show to the community of a journey made in an associative context, and of the profound effects it had on the people who participated in it».

«Given the complexity of the topic, we considered it necessary to include context, history, chronology of events, that is, framing – because a 7-decade old conflict needs to be contextualized to be understood» says the association, which adds that «the recent tragic events in Israel and Palestine made us think that this information could still be useful».

The restoration of the exhibition aims to «be an active contribution to informed debate, to the urgent mobilization of everyone to demand peace and humanist and fairer solutions, so that barbarism and violence are not perpetuated under our collective silence».
