Aljezur sweet potato festival expects to receive 20 thousand people this year

Aljezur sweet potato festival starts tomorrow and ends on Sunday

The Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival, which starts tomorrow, November 24th, and ends on Sunday, 26th, expects to receive 20 thousand people this year and promises new things.

The musical bet will be made in Buba Espinho «which has a lot to do with our identity» and could «attract even more people», he explains to Sul Informação António Carvalho, councilor for events and economic activities at Aljezur City Council.

As new features, this member of the executive also highlights an exhibitor that will present a chocolate with sweet potato liqueur or another that will combine cheeses with «the best sweet potato in the country».

The “Explore, live and feel” Aljezur campaign will also be launched at the event, «which will invite everyone, through virtual reality, to experience everything that can be done» in this municipality, from hiking to the potato production cycle- sweet of the lyra variety.

Speaking to our newspaper, Manuel Marreiros, one of the 10 sweet potato producers in Aljezur, states that, this year, production “proceeded normally, despite the lack of water”.

«When the water began to run out, people began to demand more documents to be able to irrigate and there were some who were unable to plant, but we are talking about few cases and, therefore, it can be said that the campaign ran smoothly. »

Regarding the festival, Manuel Marreiros says that «if it goes like last year it will be good».

António Carvalho also highlights the importance of this event, not only for the municipality but for the region.

«We have many people from the region visiting the festival, but there are more and more people looking for the Algarve this weekend because of the Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival. There is always great demand for accommodation and restaurants in the municipality», concludes the councilor.
