FAGAR sees PRR applications approved to improve water efficiency

Works will also control water losses in the city of Faro

FAGAR received approval of the applications submitted to the Algarve Regional Water Efficiency Plan, within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), which will allow investment in works to improve water efficiency and control water losses in the city of Faro.

In the first operation, the global investment of 845.305,47 euros, supported by the Next Generation EU fund, involves a set of five renovation projects: Quinta do Eucalipto, Lagos e Relvas, Rua Prof. Dr. Egas Moniz and Alto Rodes and Santo António do Alto Reservoirs, including the renewal of 2,35 kilometers of water supply network and the installation of three controlled pressure zones (ZPC), with a view to reducing 2,70 % of real water losses (equivalent to 26.102 m³/year).

The second application was, according to FAGAR, produced with the objective of «implementing continuous and integrated measurement, management and technical control tools for the water distribution system».

This includes the creation and remodeling of 24 measurement and control zones (ZMC), which upgrade of the remote management system, the implementation of an operational management solution and the acquisition of leak detection equipment (dataloggers and acoustic correlator).

«The projects now approved are part of a continuity strategy that has been implemented by FAGAR in the last decade, and of which the execution of numerous projects in recent years is an integral part», says the municipal company.

For FAGAR, the fact that the PRR validates part of these projects constitutes «a recognition of this strategy and a stimulus to continue in the direction we set out 10 years ago».
