Search and rescue course with dogs arrives in the Algarve

The course consists of two theoretical modules and two practical modules, to be held on the 3rd of December, 7th of January, 4th of February and 3rd of March

Remote control, passing through unpleasant places, searching large areas, rubble, simulations and much more. The dog search and rescue course starts next Sunday, December 3rd, at Woofland by Iron Dog, at MAR Shopping Algarve, in Loulé. 

The course lasts 20 hours and aims to prepare trainees to take search and rescue dog certification tests using the International Rescue Dog Organization (IRO) method.

The course consists of two theoretical modules and two practical modules, to be held on the 3rd of December, the 7th of January, the 4th of February and the 3rd of March.

The extensive program content covers topics such as characteristics of a search and rescue dog, olfactory discrimination and olfactory search, learning psychology, specific training in large areas and debris, Henzelm Obedience box, intervention techniques and tactics depending on the scenario, control of distance, passing through unpleasant places, searching large areas, searching rubble, simulations, among others.

Students can take the in-person course with their dog and sign up for the full course or choose to take just a few modules.

The cost of the course is 170 euros and the cost of each module is 50 euros. The trainer is the experienced Débora Giuffrida, dog trainer and certified search and rescue dog trainer with IRO method training Débora has experience in simulations and real disaster situations and disappearance of people since 2013.

She is also the founder of the “Give Me The Paw” dog training school, located in Pêra, in the municipality of Silves.
