António Costa stated today that, with the foreseeable duration of the investigation being investigated by the Public Ministry (MP), “with great probability”, he will “never hold any public office again”.

António Costa took this position in response to journalists at the official residence of São Bento, in Lisbon, after being asked whether his communication to the country today could not constitute interference in the process brought by the courts.

The chief executive denied that he was interfering in any judicial process and said that he is only aware of what has been published in the media.

«A completely different thing from the judicial assessment of individual acts, it is a set of ideas that I believe need to be clarified from now on. And at this moment I am very comfortable to clarify, because I have already resigned as Prime Minister, I have already announced that I will not be a candidate for Prime Minister, and with the foreseeable duration of this judicial process, I will most likely never hold any public office again», stated the chief executive.
