Catalog of the exhibition “Between fishing and weaving lines” launched in Portimão

It will be presented on December 3rd

The catalog for the exhibition “Between fishing and weaving lines”, by Conceição Abreu, will be presented on December 3rd, at the Portimão Museum, at 17pm, with the artist in attendance.

According to the Municipality of Portimão, the catalog contains information about each composition by the artist, which establishes in her works of different types an interesting proximity and a space for reunion between elements of fishing and maritime reality, highlighting fishing nets and, simultaneously, the lines of a more contemporary lace, with which it connects, builds and presents an aesthetic and artistic “skein” that proposes plural readings and symbolisms.

Through the creations gathered, Conceição Abreu suggests «a new look, recalling her journey of textile memories, knitted and inherited within the family, made present in a renewed incorporation and intertwining with other uses, practices and meanings».

Curated by Sofia Marçal, the recently exhibited exhibition was designed with the purpose of creating, from a contemporary perspective, a dialogue with the Portimão Museum's ethnographic collection and the history of fishing linked to the city, and can be considered almost a retrospective exhibition, where the lightness of the works was framed within a poetic narrative expanded over time.

In a note, the Chamber of Portimão emphasizes that «the works, where fishing and weaving lines meet, reflect the
the artist's commitment to searching for the limits of materials and materials, realizing them in works of art and giving them immortality».

According to Conceição Abreu, «connected to the fishing villages on the coast, the notions of travel and place emerge, which are developed here in their connection and interweaving, having as an image the lines that unite and intertwine», from which the pieces on display result, «through the intersections with which textures and meshes were formed».

Born in Sintra in 1961, Conceição Abreu is an artist and researcher, represented in several collections in France, Australia and Portugal.
