Portuguese athletes shine in the Algarve race on the world triathlon circuit

From 2025 onwards, the Portimão race will qualify the top 10 male and female athletes for the TRITON World Series final.

Portuguese athletes shone in the different events and distances, achieving victories in the short and middle events for women and the long event for men, of the second edition of the TRITON World Series, which took place in Portimão between the 27th and 29th of October.

The event brought more than 250 athletes from 17 countries to the Algarve.

“TRITON 3” is a staged event, with each modality being played on different days.

In addition to this format, anyone was allowed to participate in just one or two modalities/days. This configuration was strongly supported by several athletes, who stood out especially in swimming and cycling events.

The great competitive highlight at international level was Ioannis Drymonakos, a Greek Olympic swimmer who has already won seven European medals and was a finalist seven times in world competitions.

During the race, the diversity of ages among the participants became evident, with the youngest athlete, aged just 17, taking part in the swimming race, while the oldest athlete, aged 63, completed the three days in the distance. average. Out of curiosity, around 75% of the participants were male and 25% female.

The TRITON World Series was also marked by its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy within the scope of social inclusion, through the participation of athletes with reduced motor capacity, and environmental responsibility, since the event, in partnership with the Municipal Company of Water and Waste of Portimão (EMARP), installed sources of drinking water to meet the hydration needs of the participants, who used silicone cups, also available in the aforementioned structures, with the aim of reinforcing the conscious consumption of drinking water and the elimination of single-use plastics during the tests.

The third edition of the TRITON World Series should take place in March 2025, in Lisbon. From 2025, the event will qualify the 10 best-ranked male and female athletes for the TRITON World Series final.

TRITON is a new global competition that aims to change the reality of triathlon through constant innovation and a strong brand with the aim of creating value through its assets and new competition race formats around the world.

TRITON features three distinct formats: a regular one-day triathlon competition, a three-day triathlon competition separating each sport into consecutive days, and a soon-to-be-launched gymnastics series.
