AMAL launches campaign “Don’t close your eyes to the climate. Algarve, Time to Care”

Campaign is aimed, in particular, at residents in the region and will be available in Portuguese and English

“Don’t close your eyes to the climate. Algarve, Time to Care” is the motto of the campaign to raise awareness about the issue of climate change, launched yesterday by the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL).

«Climate change has been debated on a global scale for several decades, but the warnings are not having an impact on people's lifestyles to the level that would be desirable», notes AMAL.

Therefore, «bearing in mind this absolute need, that it is urgent to definitively wake up to the problem», AMAL launched the awareness campaign.

The initiative «intends to raise awareness, involve and hold people accountable, remembering that it is no longer possible to continue to ignore the effects of climate change and that the future of our “collective destiny” depends, to a large extent, on this individual awareness».

It will be available in Portuguese and English, using various communication media, with a special focus on social media, but it can also be seen, for example, on buses.

This is a campaign integrated into the project «Adaptation with Knowledge, Climate Change» funded by EEA Grants, through the Environment Program, whose main objective is to improve the Algarve's resilience and response capacity to climate change, creating the support bases necessary for the implementation of the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Algarve (PIAAC-AMAL).

The Campaign is promoted by AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, which has as partners the Algarve Tourism Region and the The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS).

Also within the scope of this project, the Algarve Adapta microsite, which contains information and guidance documents for adapting to climate change.
