Tavira: People with diabetes participate in cooking demonstration

Within the scope of the “Diabetes in Movement” program

The Municipality of Tavira promoted, within the scope of the “Diabetes em Movimento” program and in order to mark World Food Day, a culinary demonstration, followed by tasting, for people with diabetes.

The action was aimed at users of this program and had the collaboration of 3rd year students of the technical kitchen and pastry course, chef Jossara Martins from the Vila Real de Santo António Hotel School, and nutritionist Laura Silvestre Martins, from ACES Algarve III – Algarve Sotavento.

“Diabetes em Movimento”, included in the Municipality’s Physical Activity Promotion Plan, is a community physical exercise program for people with type 2 diabetes and is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Tavira and ACES Sotavento.

The sessions take place at the Dr. Eduardo Mansinho Municipal Pavilion, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, until June 2024.

Participation is free, subject to referral from doctors and nurses at the Tavira Health Center.

The national coordination of this program is the responsibility of the Directorate-General for Health, through the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity and the National Program for Diabetes.
