PSP arrested three men for domestic violence in the Algarve

On Wednesday and yesterday

The PSP arrested three men in the Algarve on suspicion of the crime of domestic violence in recent days, two of whom were awaiting trial in pre-trial detention.

Two of the suspects were arrested in the city of Portimão, following reports of domestic violence, which, «given its seriousness and pressing need for measures to safeguard the victims' safety», led the PSP to act quickly.

Following the investigation carried out by the PSP's Portimão Criminal Investigation Squadron, the Portimão Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants.

«During yesterday morning, the 33- and 51-year-old suspects were located, detained and present in court, with one of them being subject to a measure of preventive detention and to the other a measure of prohibition of contact and proximity to the victim, supported by electronic control", according to the District Command of Faro of the PSP.

The third man was arrested following an investigation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Olhão Police Station.

The suspect, 36 years old and with a history of drug use, “had been recording repeated episodes of increasingly violent actions towards the victim”, which made it urgent “to apply more effective coercive measures”.

An arrest warrant issued by the Public Ministry allowed the PSP to arrest the man on Wednesday. The suspect was remanded in pre-trial detention.
