Loulé Civil Protection promotes awareness-raising actions about the risk of floods

Actions were developed in the parishes of S. Clemente, S. Sebastião, Boliqueime, Almancil and Quarteira

Loulé City Council, through the Municipal Civil Protection Service, has already promoted several awareness-raising actions about the risk of flooding in the municipality, particularly in areas susceptible to this type of phenomenon.

The initiative had the cooperation of the Loulé Fire Department and was planned in such a way as to have direct contact with the population of the areas of the Municipality most susceptible to these risks, with emphasis on the parishes of S. Clemente, S. Sebastião, Boliqueime, Almancil and Quarteira.

«The information action sought to establish direct contact with the population, through the distribution of leaflets and posters on preventive and self-protection behaviors. Among the measures to be adopted are: cleaning and unblocking drains and drainage channels in backyards, balconies, basements and garages, reviewing pumping systems, cleaning gutters and gutters, adequate fixing of loose structures, namely scaffolding , billboards and other suspended structures, special care must be taken when circulating and remaining near wooded areas, due to the possibility of falling branches or trees», says the Loulé Chamber in a note.

Municipal technicians and members of the fire department also left advice on behaviors to adopt during and after a flood.

«The first autumn rains are generally responsible for the dragging and concentration of solid waste in inappropriate places (gutters, drains, ditches), causing accumulation of rainwater that could cause cuts in communication routes or even flooding on the lower floors of buildings", reinforces the municipality.
