Loulé will host, on the 27th and 28th of October, the 5th edition of the Cities, Architecture and Archives Meeting in the Ibero-American context.

«At the origin of this scientific meeting was the desire to interpret and publicize the relevance of the processes of particular works, existing in archives and municipal Urban Planning Services, for the development of research in the area of Architecture and Information Science», explains the municipality.

The Loulé Chamber further explains that «this initial general objective was expanded throughout the following editions, with the aim of enriching reflection and the production of knowledge, within the Ibero-American scope, currently asserting itself as a space for debate, between architects, architectural researchers and archivists from academic and municipal and district circles, in search of bridges between the work carried out in the world of architecture and archives, how these complement each other and are inseparable, but also how they possible to enhance this collaborative work».

The first day of the event takes place at Palácio Gama Lobo, from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm, and starts with an opening conference on the preservation of the sociocultural identity of the Loulé community.

There are four panels distributed across themes: “Architecture, archives and visual cultures”, “Private archives of architects in Portuguese municipalities”, “Architecture, archives and journeys of the eye” and “Architecture archives in Brazil”.

On Saturday, the 28th, the program will be filled with guided tours of three spaces that are good examples of rehabilitation work carried out by the Municipality of Loulé and, to that extent, have already been distinguished with architecture awards.
