The Municipality of Lagoa was committed to achieving the goal of 40% of women in decision-making positions by 2030 and was recognized as a flagship organization of the National Goal for Gender Equality, in a ceremony that took place on the 10th of October.

In practice, the Lagos Chamber received a Diploma of Commitment within the scope of the National Goal for Gender Equality, an initiative promoted by the UN Global Compact Network Portugal.

«This diploma distinguishes the commitment, publicly made by the municipality of Lagoa, to have 40% of women in top management positions (Administration and Executive Committee) by 2030. A target that, with regards only to management positions in the services of the municipality, has already been achieved as of today, which clearly demonstrates the work that the Municipality of Lagoa has been developing in recent years», according to the municipality.

The Municipality of Lagoa «has been recognized for its practices in integrating the dimension of Gender Equality, Citizenship and Non-Discrimination, both in the internal context of the municipality and in the activities it promotes externally. Proof of this recognition is the way in which it has been distinguished, consecutively from 2016 to the present date, with the “Living in Equality” Award”, awarded by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, as part of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination.

«The Diploma of Commitment now received, more than an award, is a sign of encouragement to continue the work we have been doing in removing barriers that still hinder gender equality in access to employment, positions of power, professional remuneration or even in sports", said Luís Encarnação, president of the Municipality of Lagoa.
