Man dies on Nossa Senhora da Rocha beach, in Lagoa

A 63-year-old man, of Canadian nationality, died on the afternoon of Sunday, October 1st, after going into cardiorespiratory arrest, following a dive, at Nossa Senhora da Rocha beach, in the municipality of Lagoa.

According to the National Maritime Authority, the alert was received at 16:56 pm and members of the Portimão Maritime Police Local Command, the INEM Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) and the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters were activated to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was found that the victim had already been removed from the water by the lifeguards on duty at the beach, "who promptly began basic life support maneuvers", in collaboration with a doctor who was on the beach, until the arrival of INEM, which continued the maneuvers, using the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

«After several attempts and it was not possible to reverse the situation, death was declared on site by the VMER doctor, and the body was subsequently transported by the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters to the Medical-Legal Office of Portimão, after contact with the Public Prosecutor's Office. », the Maritime Authority further clarifies.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident.
